Funeral Cake

This is a classic family recipe from my mom's cousin Dorothy.  When anyone dies you can bet your life Dorothy will bring a funeral cake.  We swear she always has one pre-made in the freezer just in case something tragic happens!

1 stick butter

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

2 cups flour

8oz sour cream

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

Filling:

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup ground walnuts

1 tsp cinnamon

Cream butter and sugar together in a mixer.  Beat in the eggs and then add the flour.  Add sour cream baking powder, soda and vanilla.  Beat until batter is smooth.

In a small bown mix the filling ingredients togehter.  Pour half the batter into a greased tube pan.  Sprinkle 3/4 of the filling mixture on top, then add the remaining batter.  Sprinkle the remaining filling mixture on and bake for 45 minutes at 325 or until tester comes out clean.  Hint:  If the batter seems too dry ad a splash of milk before pouring in the pan.
