Pizza

Yeah that's right...Pizza.  Not from Papa John's or the neighborhood pizzeria but fresh from your oven with out the plastic wrap and cardboard tray.

Pizza is one of America's favorite foods and it's so easy to make.  The average pizzeria has to sell 1 slice to pay for the entire pie.  Save the cash and do it yourself.

You don't need any fancy equipment just a cast iron skillet or some sort of cookie sheet or round pan.

1 1/2 Cups Warm Water

1 pkg Dry Yeast

1 tsp Salt

3 Cups Flour

3 Tablespoons Melted Shortening

1 tsp Sugar

Dissolve yeast in warm, not hot, water with salt and sugar. Add 2 cups of flour.. mix well. Add melted Crisco and mix well.  Add another cup of flour and knead on a well floured wooden surface.  It is important to knead well but not too much.  The more you work it the "heavier" the dough. Place the dough in a oiled bowl and let rest for 30 minutes. Divide dough and roll out on a floured wooden surface to the size of your pan or tray.

Once rolled out the est is up to you and your taste.  Add marinara sauce, cheese, meats, veggies, olive oil, basil...  That being said use quality toppings.  If you add Ragu brand sauce and your pizza tastes like crap don't wonder why.  Use a good mozzarella cheese, even buy a block and shred yourself.  Mixing with sharp Parmesan or Asiago can liven it up as well.

Place in hot oven (450 degrees) and bake until done.  Done means done.  If you don't know what done pizza looks like perhaps you should put down the spatula and step out of the kitchen before someone gets hurt.
